Gene Novak is a Licensed Construction Supervisor, Class A Field Concrete Technician and currently works as District State Building Inspector with the Department of Occupational Labor – Office of Public Safety & Inspections for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Gene has over 35 years of knowledge of in the construction industry including reviewing plans, applying building codes and standards to a variety of buildings and structures in the built environment. Gene is a certified NIMS – ICS instructor, ATC-45, and has instructed classes for NAARSO, AIMS International.

Experience includes design and review of plans, issued building permits, and conducted inspections on thousands of residential and commercial building projects through-out the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Gene has presented technical topics to code officials and has demonstrated an ability to understand, educate and apply codes and referenced standards to a variety of building design proposals from concept and feasibility studies through Commissioning, start–up and implementation.  

Gene has served or is serving on the following committees:

  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Principal member of the Technical Committee on Structures and Construction-NFPA 5000, Personal Protective Equipment and ICS Skills Qualifications Committee. Committee produced the NFPA 5000 National Building Code published in August 2002. Technical Committee on Structure & Construction July 20, 2000 thru March 27, 2006 Technical Committee on Structures, Construction & Materials March 21, 2006 thru March 19, 2015
  • NFPA 1999: PPE (Personal Protective Equipment for First Responders and First Receivers),
  • NFPA 1026: ICS – Qualifications Committee,  
  • Massachusetts Emergency Management Team, 1993 through 2015 Responded to every event from the Great Barrington Tornado through the Danvers Chemical Plant Explosion including Hurricane Irene.
  • International Code Council– ISPSC “Swimming Pool” 2018 – 2021 Committee Vice-Chairman (2024 Edition)
